Print Sizes and Suggestions
The native or natural aspect ratio (the proportion of height to width) of the photographs I take are approximately 4x6. A 4x6 print is typically the print size you get for snap shots developed at your local  photo lab.  All gallery images on this web site are displayed using this (4x6) aspect ratio.

I can print pictures in several different sizes, but you need to be aware that some of these sizes will require the image to be cropped.  For example, 4x6, 5x8, and 7x11 have the same approximate native aspect ratio.  This means that a print of any of these sizes will not need to be cropped.  Prints of any of these sizes will appear very close to what is displayed in the gallery with respect to subject matter. This doesn't mean that they will not be cropped, only that they do not have to be cropped.  (I usually will enlarge and crop to bring in small or distant subjects.)  On the other hand, standard large frame sizes such as 5x7 or 8x10  have different aspect ratios (the proportion of height to width is much different than what is naturally captured by the camera).  These sizes will have to be cropped.  In most cases this is not a big deal.  However, in some shots (like group pictures) where the subject consumes almost the entire width of the picture, cropping is a problem.

My suggestion is that if you really want a 5x7 or 8x10 then by all means go with that.  If you don't have a strong preference for one of these standard frame sizes, then I would go with either 4x6 or 5x8.
